FoneLab iPhone Data Recovery is available with savings of up to 50% on the Windows and Mac plans below, combining selective recovery from an iPhone or iPad with iTunes/Finder and iCloud backup extraction for messages, photos, contacts, app data and other supported iOS files.
Quick Summary
FoneLab is most useful when you need to inspect recoverable data before exporting it instead of restoring an entire iPhone from an older backup. It provides three routes—direct iOS-device scanning, local iTunes/Finder backup extraction and iCloud recovery—and saves selected files to the computer.
- Best for
- deleted messages and iMessages · contacts · photos · call history · app data · damaged-device backup recovery · selective iTunes/iCloud extraction
- Platforms
- Windows and Mac editions · current technical reference covers iOS 5+ through iOS 26 / iOS 27 beta and iPadOS 13 through iPadOS 27 beta
- License
- 1 Month / 6 devices / 1 computer · Lifetime / 6 devices / 1 computer · Lifetime / 18 devices / 3 computers, with separate Windows and Mac products
- Key limitation
- Direct device recovery depends on what is still recoverable and on the iPhone being detectable; if a damaged or water-exposed device cannot be recognized, the practical recovery route is an existing iTunes/Finder or iCloud backup

Can This Software Do What I Need?
Before buying, identify where the missing data may still exist. A recently deleted message, a readable iPhone, an encrypted local backup and a dead phone with an iCloud backup are four different recovery situations.
I deleted an iMessage or text message less than about a month ago on iOS 16 or later
Apple's Recently Deleted folder
Better fitCheck Messages > Recently Deleted first. Aiseesoft's 2026 message-recovery guides note that iOS 16+ can restore recently deleted conversations for roughly 30 days without a computer, so paid recovery software may be unnecessary for this specific case.
I have no useful backup and want to scan the iPhone for deleted messages, contacts or photos
Direct iOS-device recovery
ConditionalFoneLab can scan a connected iOS device and preview detected current/deleted items before export. Recovery is not guaranteed: deleted space can be overwritten, and Aiseesoft advises reducing new device activity after important data is deleted.
I have an iTunes or Finder backup but only want selected files, not a full-device restore
Selective local-backup extraction
SupportedRecover from iTunes Backup File lists local backups, scans the selected backup and lets you preview categories before exporting selected files. Encrypted backups require the backup password.
I need specific contacts, photos, notes or reminders from iCloud without resetting the whole iPhone
Selective iCloud recovery
SupportedFoneLab iPhone Data Recovery can sign in to iCloud, verify two-factor authentication, scan selected data categories or download a backup, then export chosen items to the computer instead of restoring the entire device state.
My iPhone is water-damaged or broken
Physical damage and device detection
ConditionalAiseesoft's water-damage guide uses direct scanning only when the dried device still works and is recognized by the computer. If the iPhone cannot be detected, FoneLab's viable software route is data that already exists in iTunes/Finder or iCloud backups.
I want to recover Instagram photos or other app media stored on the iPhone
App Photos / Videos / Audio / Documents
ConditionalAiseesoft's app-data and Instagram guides document recovery from App Photos, App Videos, App Audio and App Documents when the files remain recoverable in the device scan or in a backup. App/account-side deletion behavior can still limit what exists locally.
I need Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat or similar message data
Supported social-message categories
Verify firstThe current FoneLab file list includes WhatsApp, Messenger, Kik, Line and Viber categories, and Aiseesoft's Snapchat/Facebook guides describe message scanning on iPhone. Because social apps change storage and sync behavior frequently, verify that the exact app/data type is present in the current scan before relying on it for purchase.
My goal is to unlock a disabled iPhone or repair iOS rather than recover files
Different iOS task
Different taskiPhone Data Recovery is for retrieving supported files. Passcode removal and operating-system repair are separate Aiseesoft product functions, so do not buy this recovery license expecting it to act as an iPhone unlocker or full iOS repair tool.
How It Works
Choose the recovery source first. Device scanning, local-backup extraction and iCloud recovery share the same preview-and-export finish but have different access and authentication requirements.
Recover from an iPhone or iPad Directly
- Open FoneLab iPhone Data Recovery and connect the iOS device by USB.
- On iOS 11 or later, unlock the device and tap Trust when the connection request appears.
- Choose Recover from iOS Device, optionally limit the scan to the data types you need, then start scanning.
- Preview the detected items, select the files you need and export them to a folder on the computer.
Extract Selected Files from an iTunes/Finder Backup
- Open FoneLab iPhone Data Recovery and choose Recover from iTunes Backup File.
- Select the detected local backup that should contain the missing data.
- Enter the backup password if that backup is encrypted, then scan it.
- Preview the available categories and recover only the required items to the computer.
Recover Selected Data from iCloud
- Choose Recover from iCloud in FoneLab iPhone Data Recovery and sign in with the required Apple ID credentials.
- Complete two-factor authentication when the account requires it.
- Select specific data types such as Contacts, Notes, Attachments, Reminders or Photos, or choose a relevant iCloud backup for download.
- Review the scan results and save the selected files to the computer.
Product Interface & Workflow
The three supplied screenshots mirror the product's three core recovery paths: scanning an attached iOS device, opening a local iTunes/Finder backup and retrieving selected content from iCloud.
Compatibility & Coverage
Compatibility spans old and current Apple devices, but the amount of data available for direct device recovery varies by device generation and recovery source.
| Area | Current documented coverage | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| iOS | iOS 5 and above, including iOS 18, iOS 26 and iOS 27 beta in the current technical reference | Supported-device lists currently extend through the iPhone 17 family. |
| iPadOS | iPadOS 13 / 14 / 15 / 16 / 17 / 18 / 26 / 27 beta | All current iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad families are covered at product-page level. |
| Direct scan on newer devices | 9 text categories + 4 media categories in the current technical table | This is narrower than the vendor's overall 30+/35+ recovery marketing, which includes backup-based recovery. |
| Older direct-scan devices | iPhone 4/3GS, iPad 1 and iPod touch 4 have a broader 10 text + 10 media category table | Photo recovery notes differ by device generation; some direct scans recover thumbnails rather than original full-resolution files. |
| iTunes/Finder backup | Local iOS backups; encrypted backups require the password | The backup can be inspected and selected items exported without performing a whole-device restore. |
| iCloud | Selective categories plus iCloud-backup download/recovery | Apple ID authentication and two-factor verification may be required. |
| App/social data | WhatsApp, Messenger, Kik, Line, Viber, App Documents, App Photos, App Videos and App Audio are among documented categories | Availability can differ by recovery source, device generation and what remains stored locally or in the backup. |
Features & Capabilities
The useful feature set is built around selective inspection and export, not around forcing an older backup state onto the entire device.
Three Recovery Sources
- Scan a connected iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
- Extract files from local iTunes/Finder backups
- Retrieve selected categories or files from iCloud
Selective Preview & Export
- Preview scanned current and deleted items before recovery
- Filter to a specific data type to reduce scan scope
- Choose individual messages, contacts, photos or other supported files instead of restoring everything
- Export recovered files to the computer rather than overwriting the current iPhone state
Messages, Contacts & Communication Data
- Text messages and iMessages
- Contacts and call history
- WhatsApp and documented message attachments
- Messenger, Kik, Line and Viber categories in the current product file list
Photos, Media & App Data
- Camera Roll, Photo Library and Photo Stream
- Voice Memos, voicemail and message attachments
- App Photos, App Videos, App Audio and App Documents
- HEIC preview and HEIC-to-JPG conversion in the iCloud recovery workflow
Export Formats
- Contacts: CSV, HTML and VCF
- Messages and WhatsApp: CSV / HTML
- Notes, Calendar, Reminders, Safari data and call history: documented HTML outputs
- Recovered media and app documents retain category-appropriate image, video, audio and document formats listed in the technical reference
Important Conditions & Limitations
Successful recovery depends on whether the file still exists in recoverable device storage or in a usable backup. The software can search and export data; it cannot recreate content that is no longer present in any recoverable source.
Deleted Data Can Be Overwritten
Aiseesoft's 2026 message and contact guides advise acting quickly after deletion. New photos, apps, messages and other writes can reuse storage that previously held deleted data, reducing the chance that a direct scan will find it.
Direct Recovery Requires a Usable Device Connection
The direct workflow needs the computer to detect the iPhone, and current iOS versions require the device to be unlocked and trusted. A physically dead or unrecognized phone cannot be scanned just because the recovery software is installed.
Some iOS 13+ History Data Needs an Encrypted Scan
The current tutorial states that Call History, FaceTime and Safari History on iOS 13+ may require an encrypted scan when no encrypted iTunes backup exists. If that step is skipped, those three categories are omitted from the scan.
Encrypted iTunes Backups Need the Backup Password
FoneLab can work with encrypted iTunes backups, but the vendor's tutorial requires the backup password before the backup can be scanned. The recovery application does not turn an unknown encrypted-backup password into accessible data.
Social-App Recovery Can Change with the App
Aiseesoft has vendor guides for Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat recovery, but several were written for older app-storage behavior. Treat those workflows as documented examples, then verify that the relevant category and files actually appear in the current scan before depending on them.
Backup Extraction and Full Apple Restore Are Different Workflows
Apple's normal iCloud/iTunes restore can replace the current device state with an older backup. FoneLab's backup-recovery workflow is aimed at previewing and exporting selected files to the computer, which avoids using a full-device reset simply to retrieve a few items.
Free Trial / Free Version
Aiseesoft currently provides free Windows and Mac downloads. Its still-linked FoneLab trial FAQ says the unregistered build can scan and preview files but cannot recover/export them; that FAQ was last revised in 2017, so the current download should be checked if trial behavior is purchase-critical.
| Trial / purchase point | Current documented position | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| Windows free download | Available | Useful for checking device detection and seeing whether the required categories appear. |
| Mac free download | Available | Use the Mac build to verify the iPhone/iPad connection and backup visibility before buying a Mac license. |
| Scan / preview | The linked trial FAQ says available in the unregistered version | Deleted items can be previewed when detected, which helps determine whether a paid recovery is worth attempting. |
| Recover / export | The linked trial FAQ says registration is required | The FAQ is old, so confirm the current build before treating this as a permanent licensing rule. |
| Money-back statement | 30-day guarantee advertised for qualifying quality problems | Eligibility remains subject to Aiseesoft's current sales/refund terms. |
System Requirements
The dedicated technical reference is the clearest current requirements source and is more conservative about macOS than the older main/tutorial pages.
| Requirement | Current documented value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 11 / 10 / 8 / 8.1 / 7 / Vista / XP | Current technical reference; the sales-page summary highlights Windows 11 / 10 / 8 / 7. |
| Windows CPU | 1 GHz Intel/AMD CPU or above | Published technical baseline. |
| Windows RAM | 1 GB RAM or more | Published technical baseline. |
| Mac OS | Mac OS X 10.12 or higher | The main/tutorial pages still show 10.7+ in places; the dedicated technical page lists 10.12+, so this article uses 10.12+ as the safer current minimum. |
| iOS | iOS 5+ through iOS 26 / iOS 27 beta | Supported-device list currently reaches the iPhone 17 family. |
| iPadOS | iPadOS 13 through iPadOS 27 beta | Current technical reference. |
| iTunes | iTunes 10.7 or above; latest version recommended | The Windows/iTunes recovery and device-connection workflows rely on Apple's local device components. |
| Computer free storage | More free disk space than the used storage on the iPhone | This matters because recovered files are exported to the computer. |
